Women Count for Peace: Advancing Women’s Role in Peacebuilding through Training in Bahir Dar

Under the project titled Women Count for Peace, TIMRAN, in collaboration with Empathy for Life Integrated Development (ELiDA) and Advocacy Center for Democracy and Development (ACDD), with the generous support of the UK FCDO, successfully organized and delivered a three-day training from June 30-July 02, 2025, G.C in Bahir Dar. The training focused on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and Ethiopia’s National Action Plan on the UNSCR Resolution No 1325, advocacy strategies, and negotiation skills.

The training brought together women-led and women-focused CSOs, providing a valuable platform to deepen their understanding of the WPS agenda from both global and local perspectives. Participants explored women’s leadership in peace and security, gender responsive peacebuilding planning, and effective advocacy techniques. Through interactive simulations, they also practiced negotiation and mediation skills.

On the final day, participants developed practical, localized advocacy action plans, which they will continue to refine and implement with ongoing mentorship support aimed at deepening their knowledge and strengthening the impact of their advocacy strategies.

The event was officially opened in the presence of distinguished guests, including H.E. Mr. Fasikaw Molla, Deputy Director General of ACSO, Mrs. Zina Getachew, Deputy Head of the Amhara National Regional State Bureau of Women, Children and Social Affairs, and Mr. Azmeraw, Director of the CSO Coordination Directorate at the Amhara National Regional State Bureau of Finance with their underlined key notes on women role in peacebuilding process. In their keynote remarks, all of them emphasized the critical role of women in the peacebuilding process.
