TIMRAN hosted a vibrant Regional Peace Forum in Bahir Dar through her She Leads Peace program

On October 10, 2025, with the generous support of the UK FCDO, and as part of its partnership with ELiDA and ACDD under the project Women Count for Peace, TIMRAN hosted a vibrant Regional Peace Forum in Bahir Dar through her She Leads Peace program.
The forum brought together voices from government, civil society, the WPS National Action Plan (NAP) Technical Team, WPS Task Force Co-Chairs, and associations representing various groups, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), teachers, youth, and other community groups to reflect and strategize on building sustainable peace in the Amhara Region, with women at the center.
Key Highlights:
- NAP Technical Team shared updates on the Draft WPS NAP, followed by engaging discussions.
- Local CSOs presented inspiring grassroots peacebuilding stories.
- Participants made symbolic pledges through “My Commitment for Peace” cards.
- Group work led to concrete advocacy recommendations and a validated position statement.
Distinguished guests included H.E. Birtukan Sisay, Head of the Amhara Regional State Bureau of Women, Children, and Social Affairs, H.E. Amare Sete, Vice Speaker of the Amhara Regional State Council, H.E. Simegn Wolde, Ministry of Peace, and Mr. Esayas G/Michael, representative of the Amhara Regional State Bureau of Peace and Security.
In his keynote address, H.E. Amare Sete stated: “Peacebuilding should not be left solely to the government. There is a great need for dialogue in the region to foster peace from the community level, and women must play a full role in these dialogues and peace negotiations.”
Mr. Esayas, on his part, emphasized the significant gaps in women’s engagement in peacebuilding across the region. He called for women’s inclusion, representation, and leadership in the peace process. - Peace is not just a goal, it’s a collective journey, and women shall lead the way. TIMRAN will submit the agreed-upon joint position statement to the relevant stakeholders.
