From Classrooms to Leadership: TIMRAN Celebrated International Women’s Day with the Girls of Abala, Afar Region

TIMRAN, with support from FCDO and CARE Ethiopia, continued celebrating International Women’s Day today together with the bright female students of Abala High School and members of the WLiE groups.

Under this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the celebration highlighted how expanding girls access to leadership, education, and public participation creates stronger, more peaceful, and more inclusive communities.

The celebration featured a Q&A competition that strengthened students confidence and communication skills, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the Women & Children Affairs Office, Communication Office, Peace & Security Office, and the Woreda Administration. 

Panelists shared encouraging messages about girl’s leadership, education, and their vital role in peace building.

As a women‑led organization, TIMRAN continues to champion women and girls active engagement in political and public leadership, a direct reflection of the “Give to Gain” principle: when girls are given space, knowledge, and support, communities gain future leaders.
